Alzheimer Resource and Education Center
The mission of AREC is to provide compassionate one-stop guidance and informational assistance to family members and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and to reduce the stress of caring for their loved ones.
Caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia creates immense stress. We are here to help guide you to answers and resources you may need, and to make your life just a little easier when you need it the most. We hope to show you how to meet the daily challenges of caring for someone with dementia. As you develop the ability to respond to any situation you might face with your loved one, you’ll gain confidence.
We put you in touch with residential care facilities, private home caregiver providers and rates, daycare programs, contact numbers of agencies coordinating home care, respite, counseling, and legal assistance. We also provide information to help you through the various stages of Alzheimer’s and long-term care issues.
AREC now has an extensive Alzheimer’s resource library for caregivers and those interested in understanding the levels and symptoms of dementia. With over 41 books, DVD’s and fact sheets regarding a variety of issues dealing with Alzheimer’s, any citizen of Mendocino County can check out an item on the library list by calling (707) 391-6188. The Library List will be emailed to you and available on the AREC website.
AREC provides one-stop informational assistance to caregivers including resource referral, telephone numbers and contact names of individuals and agencies that can provide assistance, information on care homes and private caregiver agencies, a resource library and educational workshops.
